GASTRIC
SLEEVE

It is the restrictive surgery with the best results. It is relatively simple and reproducible. Nowadays, this type of bariatric surgery is the most commonly performed in the world. It consists of reducing the stomach capacity in 80%. It is also used as a bridge technique in super obesity (BMI>50). It is ideal for patients without reflux or diabetes, and a BMI between 35-45.

ROUX-EN-Y GASTRIC BYPASS

It is the safest mixed surgery in the long term. We have a large amount of scientific evidence about its safety and satisfying results. It consist of reducing the gastric reservoir, and adding an intermediate malabsorptive component. Two anastomosis are performed. This kind of surgery is ideal for non-smoking, diabetic or gastroesophageal reflux patients.

MINIGASTRIC BYPASS

This is a recently developed mixed-malabsorptive surgery, technically simpler than the traditional gastric bypass. It consists of reducing the gastric reservoir, and adding a malabsorptive component larger than the bypass one. Only one anastomosis is performed. It is ideal for non-smoking patients, with a BMI > 50 and/or metabolic syndrome.

Dr. Álvaro Bueno has a General Surgery and Digestive System specialization from Clínica Universidad de Navarra. From that same University he earned a Medical degree. He carried out his doctoral thesis on laparoscopic liver surgery. Afterwards he moved to St. Mary´s Hospital in London, Imperial College of London in order to carry out a sub-specialization on Metabolic and Obesity Surgery. During this fellowship, he developed the necessary training to perform laparoscopic obesity surgery, with excellent long term results. In 2019 Dr. Bueno has passed the practical- theoretical exam of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery and has been named as “Fellow of the European Board of Surgery”, (FEBS-MIS).
