GASTRIC PLICATION
*** Gastric Plication is not currently offered to our patients
This procedure involves folding inwards the major curvature of the stomach in order to diminish its capacity to by 80%. It is not an established bariatric technique. Only a few people have used it in the world and the published results are poor. It could be an alternative to the gastric sleeve for economically depressed countries considering its lower cost by using staplers.
History
This procedure was rediscovered by Talebpour in 2007. It has emerged as a technique that seeks to offer to the patient the same restriction as the gastric sleeve but without cutting the stomach. In addition it has the advantage of being a completely reversible technique. It seems to be the perfect alternative to the gastric sleeve, because of its theoretical similar efficiency, only without leaks. Its results, however, are still very limited.
